Reading a Louis Vuitton

The date code tells you the workshop and the season. The vachetta leather tells you the life: honey-coloured when handled, pale when stored. We photograph the handles and the piping closely, because that is where a Vuitton shows its age, and we never bleach a patina to make a piece look younger than it is.
